My Mom is Chuukese and my Dad is a US Citizen, what that makes me? A half Chuukese or a half American? Or can I be both? My mom works hard every single day in a retail store and my dad works as hard in a security firm. Both of them makes decent money for our family. Putting their salaries together, our family still qualifies for Public Assistance, which includes Food Stamp, Welfare, WIC, etc... My mom likes to apply for food stamp but my dad said no. I asked my dad why and he said because two of us (the kids) would qualify and the other three kids won't because they were born in Chuuk and therefore they are not US citizens. But I Said why? A long story pursuid.

That is when I came up with this idea. I wrote Coconut asking him if he can put up a topic on this issue in this forum so we can all talk about it. It is something I think our politicians should consider.

I went to the FSM embassy website to see if I can find something relating to this issue. I found none.

Here is my take on this issue. Working Micronesian citizens who are qualified to receive such assistance must have that option open to them. This program will help a lot of families to meet their needs while trying to improve themselves. One good example would be a family that is starting out here in the US to be on such assistance while sending their kids or themselves to school to provide them better opportunities to have better jobs in the future. Good education is equal to good jobs. Many Micronesian families have very limited resources when starting out in the US that such assistance will not only help them survive on a daily basis but improve their chances of succeding in the future.

Our leaders must try to persuade the US politicians, especially democrats to look favorably in the best interest of the Working FSM citizens. Please notice that I always say working FSM citizens. Working has to be part of the equation. If you are not employed for not trying then you do not deserve such assistance. You have to try to find work and then apply for such assistance.

That is all I can think of right now. I will come back and post more if I think there is more to this topic.
